Despite the fact that today in the world Greek wines are not as popular as French or Italian, this country has the ancient traditions of making a fragrant alcoholic drink. Today in Greece is more popular white and red wine. The most famous wine producers are Rhodes and Samos Islands, as well as Lesvos, Chios and Santorini. The Island of Samos by the way, in addition to its beautiful nutmeg and light dry wines, is glorious also with delicious liqueur.
In Greece there are interesting, specific greek varieties of wine, usually having great popularity among tourists. This is, first of all, the famous white wine variety of retsina, which is distinguished by its taste of the resin of the aleppo beer. In the ancient times, the open amphora with wine have been purchased, so that the drink will remain longer. And although today’s technology is not needed, the wine is specially used to apply resin at the fermentation stage to keep that traditional taste.
One more famous variety of wine is red dry wine domestika, made from quite ancient grape varieties, which today are almost not used in winemaking. The result is an unusual earthy fruit taste and a deep aroma.
In addition, in Greece you can taste a number of specific national alcoholic beverages, which are proud of the Greeks. This drink is strong, it contains up to 70 % alcohol. It is made of grape survival, often with the addition of quince, strawberries, apples or figs. They drink distilling from small tables, but from such a small portion you can feel the burning. It is also possible to find restaurants dedicated to ouzo, where guests will give a taste of different species in traditional high cups with ice.
It is worth noting and a drink called metaxa, made of a well-aged wine mixed with a table of herbs, a clary wine and pink petals. After another semi-Annual Extract of the metal, it acquires a unique aroma with the notes of vanilla, oak and fruit. The youth of Greece also love rakomelo – distilling, mixed with cloves, cinnamon and honey.
From drinks that do not contain alcohol, the Greeks appreciate the coffee. Greek prepare it on sand, with very much fried grain used. Drinking coffee is more often hot and sweet, recording it with water. In the heat is very good coffee frappe, whipped with cold water and ice.
